Governor Opportunities

Do you want to give back to your community and make a difference?

Would you be able to commit to 3 meetings a year?

Kofi Annan famously said:

“There is no trust more sacred than the one the world holds with children”

… even more so when those children have not been exposed to the same advantages in life as others.

The Futures Trust is a small group of 9 schools in Coventry and South Leicestershire that is looking for new governors to support and work closely with our schools. Our collective mission is to ‘Build Brighter Futures’. We work hard to transform the life chances of our young people, we want to make a difference! We seek to raise the horizons and ambitions of those who learn, work and live within our diverse communities.

Working with our students and the challenges it brings are the reasons we enjoy doing the work we do; they are also the clear sense of moral purpose we love. We are totally committed to improving the outcomes and destinations of all of The Futures Trust students and supporting them to ‘build their brighter future’. We have never met a student, parent, or employee that does not want to be successful, and we believe that they can all be as good as any nationally. We believe that we can work with them to harness their desires and turn these into outstanding achievement.

Governors for each of our schools and the Local Governing Committee (LGC) they serve on provide the crucial connection to the local community which the school is rooted in and serves, they also provide a critical contextualisation of the Trust’s work at local level. The Trust therefore strongly believes in the local governance layer and the paramount importance of local community representation.

Skills, experience and commitment required

The Futures Trust Governors are deeply committed to upholding the Trust’s mission, ambitions, beliefs and values. They are high quality people that understand the gravity of public service and the paramount importance of education. They act morally and with full transparency. They offer strong support and measured challenge to school leaders. In these ways, they ensure the enduring and deep development of our schools to raise the horizons and ambitions of our learners to build their brighter future.

Governors attend three Local Governing Committee meetings per academic year and can support and enrich the school in other ways which could include:

  • participating in governor induction and training
  • school visits outside Local Governing Committee meetings
  • using their links and connections to enable opportunities for students
  • additional panel meetings or hearings

Our schools are looking for people who will be committed to supporting them. You need time, enthusiasm and a deep commitment to support our schools to be the best they can for their communities.

Experience from a professional background will be particularly welcome, but life experience is just as valuable. Professional qualifications or experience in areas such as finance, audit, law, estate management, risk, sustainability, HR, marketing, management skills or an education background are all very useful but not essential. We are looking for good committed people that want to make a difference to our students.

The Futures Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. All governors will be asked to undertake an enhanced DBS check and complete Safeguarding training.

If you are interested in, and committed to, improving education for our students and would like to make a difference within your community, please contact us on tracey.galland@thefuturestrust.org.uk
